1. The Colonial Wars Source Book by Philip Haythornthwaite

An excellent hardback review of the armies and battles encountered around the world during the British colonial era (effectively the 19th century). Well over half of the book has relevance to campaigns in Africa, with almost 100 pages on African campaigns and armies, and more on the British army, tactics and biographies of various commanders.

2. African Arms and Armour

An excellent review of African arms and armour through the ages, with 30 colour plates and a large number of illustrations. An invaluable resource to anyone who games African campaigns or small skirmish battles set in Africa.

3. Boer Wars 1898–1902

One of the vast range of 'Men-at-Arms' series from Osprey Military publishers. This 48 page booklet comes complete with an historical overview, army descriptions and tactics, a brief review of significant battles and campaigns. As with all books in the series, it comes with the usual set of eight color plates and accompanying descriptions of uniforms and weapons.
