21 1619 Birth of Jan Anthoniszoon van Riebeeck. Van Riebeeck landed at the southern tip of Africa on 6 April 1652 to create a settlement for the Dutch East-India Company (Vereenighde Oostindische g'octrooijeerde Compangie, VOC).
21 1994 First reports of Rwandan genocide are starting to appear.

22 1901 Boer War: Concentration Camps
The British Secretary for War, St. John Broderick, has told the House of Commons that every effort is being made to improve conditions in concentration camps in South Africa. The camps currently hold over 75,000 Boers, mostly women and children.
