Largest Telescope in the Southern Hemisphere: SALT at Sutherland, South Africa
SALT's 10 metre diameter mirror is made up from 91 identical spherical hexagonal segments. The design was based upon the Hobby-Ebberly Telescope at the McDonald Observatory in Texas, one of the international partners in the project.
