1920, 30 September
France takes over the mandate for Togo (previously a German colony).

1942, 30 September - World War II: North Africa
As part of the lead up to Operation 'Lightfoot', two brigades form the 44th Division (XIII Corps under Lieutenant-General Sir Brian Horrocks) attack the German defences in the Munassib Depression. Falling under heavy fire, and suffering many casualties, they pull back.

1966, 30 September
Botswana (previously known as Bechuanaland) achieves independence (within the Commonwealth) from Britain.
