Riots erupt in East London after strike meetings are banned. 17 blacks are killed, as well as an Irish Nun who was stoned to death by the mob.

1961, 9 November
Despite the threat of bombs in Accra, Queen Elizabeth arrives from Britain to begin her state visit to Ghana.
