1922, 7 May
Britain is angered over Egyptian claims to sovereignty over Sudan.

1936, 7 May
Pilot Amy Mollison lands at Cape Town after a 3 day, 6 hour, and 26 minute flight from England which took her along the west coast of Africa.

1942, 7 May - World War II: East Africa
Naval bases of Antsirañana and Diego Suarez, Madagascar, are surrendered to the British by Vichy forces.

1943, 7 May - World War II: North Africa
Bizerte and Tunis are captured by General Sir Harold Alexander's 18th Army Group. All that remains of the German force is General Gustav von Vaerst's 5th Panzer Army on the Cape Bon peninsula.

1946, 7 May
British Prime Minister, Clement Attlee, announces plans to withdraw British troops from Egypt, dependent upon agreement for a military alliance for the protection of the Suez Canal.

1965, 7 May
Rhodesia's white electorate have abandoned their traditional party loyalty and voted overwhelmingly for Ian Smith's Rhodesian Front Party.

1970, 7 May
Muhammad Siyad Barre, the Chairman Supreme Revolutionary Council (a military junta) orders the nationalization of all foreign banks and oil companies in Somalia.
