1944, 2 June - World War II: North Africa
North Africa is used as a base of operations for Operation Frantic -- 130 Flying Fortresses fly to Russia, bombing targets in Rumania and Hungary as they go.

1966, 2 June
The four former ministers sentenced to death for treason, murder, and an attempted coup by Joseph-Désiré Mobutu's military government in the Congo are hanged.

1977, 2 June
Rhodesian forces discover fewer guerrillas in Mozambique than intelligence reports suggested, and are withdrawn.

1978, 2 June
US offers to airlift French paratroopers out of the escalating violence in southern Zaire.
