Kenyanthropus platyops

Definition:

Early hominid dated to between 3.5 and 3.2 m.y.a. The discovery of Kenyanthropus platyops on the western shore of Lake Turkana, northern Kenya, was announced by Meave Leakey in March 2001. It is claimed to represent a completely new branch of the hominid family tree.
