Constitutional Monarchy

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

The hereditary, or elected, monarch is either a ceremonial, non-executive, head of state (eg Lesotho where King Letsie III has no executive or legislative powers, and can be deposed by the college of chiefs) or has executive power (eg Morocco, where King Mohamed VI appoints the prime minister and cabinet following legislative elections). Governance is established under a constitutional system which details how much power the monarch wields.
