1972 Addis Ababa Agreement (for The Sudan)

Definition:

An agreement, or accord, signed by Sudanese president Jaafar Muhammad an-Numeiry and Joseph Lagu of the Anya Nya (a southern Sudanese rebellion movement) in 1972 which brought the First Sudanese Civil War to an end. The agreement granted Southern Sudan autonomy, creating the Southern Sudan Autonomous Region.

The 1972 Agreement was abandoned by an-Numeiry's government in 1983, sparking the Second Sudanese Civil War.
