Premier Apollo Milton Obote, implicated with his army commander General Idi Amin over a scandal of a cache of gold and ivory taken from neighbouring Congo, orders the arrest of five of his cabinet ministers and assumes the presidency.

1967, 22 February
The world's first albino Gorilla is discovered in Africa.
