1900, 3 August - Anglo-Boer War
President Paul Kruger and Commandant General Louis Botha issue a proclamation in Pretoria which promises to pay those Burghers who remain active with their Commandos for damage done to their farms by the British.

An Italian, Commander Piazza, is the world's first pilot to fly a military mission - he flies reconnaissance missions over Tripoli.
