With Both Hands Waving
Mozambique, in south-east Africa, is a country of long, tropical beaches and warm seas, brave people, and an
intriguing history mixing African, Muslim, and colonial cultures. It's also one of the few success stories the
United Nations can boast about for, after more than 30 years of war, the country is at peace and rebuilding
itself. Journalist Justin Fox travelled the length of the country, from the south where tourists are slowly
returning, to the untouched, remote north. This book interweaves the history of the country with this journey
of discovery. It's a compulsive read, mixing keen observation with humour, recounted in a poetic style. The
title is a reference to the way Mozambicans greet you to show they're not carrying a weapon. |
