African Members of the Commonwealth of Nations

Flag of the Commonwealth of NationsThere are 18 African countries who are members of the Commonwealth of Nations. (Zimbabwe decided to leave in 2003.) All but two were British colonies or dominions. Cameroon was partially British (following World War I) and Mozambique was allowed to join as a special case following democratic elections in 1994.

Find out when each of these African countries became a member of the Commonwealth, and whether they started off as a Commonwealth Realm or went directly to being a Commonwealth Republic:
