Zambia's Levy Patrick Mwanawasa Dies

Levy Patrick MwanawasaOn 19 August 2008 Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, respected statesman and third president of an independent Zambia, died of complications due to an earlier stroke. He will be remembered as a political reformist, who secured debt relief and led Zambia through a period of economic growth, and as one of the few African leaders prepared to criticize Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe.
