7 April 1960 – ANC and PAC are Banned in South Africa

The Unlawful Organisations Act No 34 of 1960 takes effect, allowing the Apartheid government in South Africa to declare unlawful any organization deemed to threaten public order. The ANC and PAC are declared unlawful and are immediately banned.
