Biography: Cetshwayo kaMpande

Cetshwayo was the last king of an independent Zulu nation. His forces defeated the British at Isandlwana (22 January 1879), but lost the war -- with Cetshwayo being taken captive after the battle of Ulundi (28 August 1879). He was restored as king (after he presented his case to Queen Victoria) three years later to rule a portion of his former nation, but when civil war broke out, Cetshwayo was forced to flee and he died (possibly was assassinated) at Eshowe (8 February 1884).
