Uganda: Museveni Wins Election
Sunday February 26, 2006
Uganda's incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has been declared the winner of the election. Museveni changed the constitution to enable him to run in the elections, the first in 25 years. Claims of fraud have been made and Kizza Besigye, the leader of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change, has rejected the poll results. Whether this will end peacefully, as in last month's election in Liberia when Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf was accepted by the losing party as president, or whether the mud-slinging and violence will escalate, remains to be seen.
