Namibia's National Anthem

Tuesday January 17, 2006
After Namibia finally achieved independence in 1990, a competition was held for a new national anthem. The winning anthem, written and composed by Axali Doeseb, is called Namibia, Land of the Brave and was adopted in 1991. The anthem "describes the will of the Namibian people to survive amid hardship and suffering and, most importantly, their love for their country and their nation." (source: Namibian government website).

Namibia, Land of the Brave
Freedom fight we have won
Glory to their bravery
Whose blood waters our freedom
We give our love and loyalty
Together in unity
Contrasting beautiful Namibia
Namibia our country
Beloved land of savannahs
Hold high the banner of liberty

CHORUS:
Namibia our country
Namibia motherland
We love thee.

I was 4 weeks at a school in Namibia Februari 2008 and the national hymn was sung by the learners every day. It was a different song however!
