Gabon's National Parks

Friday November 5, 2004
Did you know that 10 per cent of Gabon has been set aside as national park? The 13 parks were created by Gabon's President El Hadj Omar Bongo and comprise some 10,000 square miles protecting vital habitat for gorillas, chimpanzees, forest elephants and other wildlife. As a percentage of a country's total area, only Costa Rica has more national park. The Megatransect of the conservationist Michael Fay, sponsored by National Geographic, contributed towards the establishments of the parks.
